Play records wirelessly

Wireless music listening is the name of the game these days. The Sony PS-LX310BT has Bluetooth built-in, so records can be part of your wireless system. Pair it with a compatible Bluetooth speaker or a pair of headphones for listening during quiet hours.

Phono preamp built in

If you want to make a wired connection to your existing system, or a pair of powered stereo speakers, this turntable's switchable built-in phono preamp ensures compatibility with a wide variety of audio gear. Set the output to "Phono" if you're connecting to a dedicated phono input or a separate phono preamp. Or set it to "Line" if you're connecting directly to a standard line-level audio input.

Digitize your record collection

The turntable's Type-B USB output lets you connect to your computer and make digital copies of your favorite albums, so you can take them with you on road trips or your daily commute (free 3rd-party Audacity software recommended.)

Automatic operation

The PS-LX310BT is fully automatic. It can start and stop hands-free, and the tonearm will return to its resting place when it reaches the final groove of the record. Just set the "size" switch to 7-inch or 12-inch and the player does the rest for you.

Selectable gain switch

Albums from different eras and different engineers are recorded at varying levels. To help with that, there's a three-position gain switch on the back of the turntable, so you can compensate when you're using Bluetooth or the phono preamp (it won't work when the switch is set to "Phono"). The Mid setting offers flat gain, Low is -4dB, and High bumps output by +6dB.

Features

Aluminum Platter & Tone-Arm: The Sony PS-LX310BT turntable features a belt drive mechanism with an aluminum die-cast platter. Robust yet lightweight, the platter stays stable as it rotates for clearer playback of your music. Featuring a new straight design and sturdy aluminum construction, the tone arm boosts traceability for stable playback, rich, clear sound and powerful bass.

2-Speed (33-1/3 & 45 RPM): The Sony PS-LX310BT supports playback of 33-1/3 & 45 RPM records (45 RPM adapter is included). There is a speed switch on the turntable which lets you select between 33-1/3 or 45 RPM.

Built-in Bluetooth: The Sony PS-LX310BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 4.2, allowing you to wirelessly stream your vinyl record soundtracks to a Bluetooth-enabled wireless speaker or headphones. You can pair up to eight speakers/headphones with the turntable, but only one speaker/headphone can be connected and played back at a time. The turntable has a Bluetooth wireless range of approximately 33' (10 meters).

Note: The audio level of will be controlled from your Bluetooth-enabled speaker or headphones. Make sure your Bluetooth-enabled speaker or headphones have an adjustable audio level. Do not connect with speakers and headphones that do not feature an audio level adjustment.

Switchable Built-in Preamplifier: In addition to Bluetooth wireless connectivity, the PS-LX310BT provides a stereo RCA output with an attached 52" stereo RCA cable for a wired connection to your home receiver, integrated amplifier, or powered speakers. The built-in switchable stereo phono/line-level preamplifier permits use of the PS-LX310BT turntable with stereo systems having either magnetic-phono inputs or line-level (Aux) inputs; also allows convenient use of the turntable with most powered speakers.

USB-B 2.0 Output: The Sony PS-LX310BT is also fitted with a USB-B 2.0 output to connect the turntable to your computer or laptop (including Windows or Mac), so you can rip your favorite vinyl tracks to your computer using a USB-B to USB-A cable (sold separately) and recording software (not included).

  • Software Requirements: You will need to install a recording software (not included) on your computer to record audio tracks from the turntable. If no recording software is installed, you cannot record audio tracks, even if you connect the turntable to your computer. Sony recommends the downloadable Audacity recording software.
  • Computer Requirements: The turntable's USB port supports connection of a Windows PC with latest service pack (7/8.1/10; 32/64-bit) or Mac computer (OS X 10.9-10.11 / macOS 10.12-10.14). The standard driver software of Windows and Mac is supported; no installation of a dedicated driver software is needed.

Note: The USB output can only be used for recording, not for playback.

One-Step Auto Playback: Thanks to the "One-Step Auto Playback" function, the turntable will automatically lower the tone arm, find the groove and get your vinyl music playing when your press the "Start" button. And when the record ends or your press the "Stop" button, the tone arm automatically returns to its resting position.

Gain Select Switch: You can adjust the PS-LX310BT turntable's gain switch (located on rear-panel) to match the audio level of your record, so you can hear your music at its distortion-free best. During playback adjust the difference of the volume of your vinyl records. If the audio track was recorded on the vinyl record at a quiet volume, set the Gain Select switch to "High" to play at the appropriate volume level. If the audio track was recorded on the vinyl record at a loud volume, set the Gain Select switch to "Low" to play at the appropriate volume level. The turntable's Gain Select switch comes set to "Mid" by default for playback of most vinyl record soundtracks.

Note: The Gain Select switch is only effective when the turntable is set to Line-Level, Bluetooth, or USB-B output. The Gain Select switch is ineffective when the turntable is set to Phono output.

Dust Cover: The PS-LX310BT comes with a hinged dust cover to protect the turntable from dust and debris. The thicker dust cover muffles acoustic pressure from your speakers for better stability and less distortion. The dust cover can also be removed.

AC Power Adapter: The Sony PS-LX310BT comes with an AC power adapter that plugs into the back of the turntable and into an AC power outlet or surge protector (sold separately - see Accessories tab).

Q
Can this record player connect to a Sony ht-a7000 sound bar via Bluetooth and have volume control via soundbar remote?
treecte  Jan 10, 2024
1 answer
A
The Sony PS-LX310BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 4.2 T.D., allowing you to wirelessly stream your vinyl record soundtracks to a Bluetooth-enabled wireless speaker or headphones. The audio level will be controlled from your soundbar's remote.

Q
To record audio via USB to my computer, why would I need to buy a more expensive cable like the AudioQuest brand versus the much less expensive Hosa brand?
greg  Dec 06, 2023
1 answer
A
I used a generic USB cable I had already owned with no issues. As long as you have the proper USB connector on each end it should work. Just make sure you have a USB type B to connect to the turntable side. I'm sure the quality of some USB cables are better than others, just like any other audio/video cable.

Q
Do you sell Bluetooth speakers that are compatible with the Sony PS-LX310BT?
heide  Sep 12, 2023
1 answer
A
We do, Heide! You can use many of our Bluetooth speaker options with the Sony PS-LX310BT. If you would like a set of Bluetooth bookshelf speakers, the Jamo S 801 PMs in the first link below are a great call. They have an amp built-in, and they sound fantastic with vinyl. If you want an option to use with your Wi-fi you can also choose a Sonos Era 100 in the second link below. One sounds good, but you can also use two in a stereo pair! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_701S801PMW/Jamo-S-801-PM-White.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_616ERA100B/Sonos-Era-100-Black.html

Q
What brand/model cartridge comes installed on this turntable?
patrick  Sep 06, 2023
1 answer
A
The Sony PS-LX310BT comes with a factory-installed moving magnet cartridge that is not specified by brand, Pat. This cartridge is available from Sony if you do need a replacement due to use on your Sony PS-LX310BT automatic turntable. If you are looking for a similar option feature-wise with a major branded cartridge, consider the Audio-Technica AT-LP60BXT in the link below! The Audio-Technica comes with the ATN3600L pre-installed. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_05760XBTUS/Audio-Technica-AT-LP60XBT-USB.html

Q
I don't see a ground terminal, but there is a phono selection switch. If I plug this into a phono preamp will it make a hum?
david  Jul 11, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings David, and thank you for your questions. Most every turntable that has a built in phono preamp will not need a ground. The Sony PS LX310BT has a switch to turn on/off the built in preamp. You would turn it off if running to an external phono preamp. You should not have the ground loop noise (hum).

Q
How to turn the volume up???
judy/dan  Mar 29, 2023
1 answer
A
Thank you for your question, Judy/Dan! The audio level will be controlled from your Bluetooth-enabled speaker or headphones. Make sure your Bluetooth-enabled speaker or headphones have an adjustable audio level. Do not connect with speakers and headphones that do not feature an audio level adjustment. If you're connecting the turntable to a receiver or amp the volume will be controlled on that component.

Q
Does anyone know the max blutooth audio capabilities? Can it output 24 bit 96hz or higher to Sony headphones?
tyler  Feb 11, 2023
1 answer
A
The Sony PS-LX310BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 4.2, allowing you to wirelessly stream your vinyl record soundtracks to a Bluetooth-enabled wireless speaker or headphones, Tyler. Since this does not support any APTX or LDAC restoration, you will not see hi-res signal restoration output through Bluetooth. You will get a wireless signal of around MP3 quality of your rich, warm analog vinyl records though, for sure!

Q
Sony PS-LX310BT - does the digital pre-amp clip the low- and high-frequency audio signal?

The Sony preamp supports the standard 20Hz-20kHz frequency response.

Q
Does this unit have an AUX output? If so, what size configuration does it take?
conor  Jan 04, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Conor, and thank you for your question. Besides the Bluetooth out, it has the standard RCA left and right outs to connect to a stereo receiver, or powered speakers, and it has a USB output for connecting to a computer to record your vinyl to a digital format.
hogan  Jan 04, 2023 (Staff)

The attached RCA cable is 52" in length.

Q
Do I need some type of external speaker for this unit? I just received it. The it works but is super quiet on its own..
andiklf  Jan 08, 2022
1 answer
A
It has a Bluetooth (wireless) capability so if you have a powered portable Bluetooth speaker or receiver that can sync with it, you're good to go. Otherwise you can plug it into a receiver or something with phono inputs. But yes, it requires amplification and speakers of some sort.
robert  Jan 08, 2022
Q
What is a recommended amp for this turntable? I have a set of Sony speakers, SS-CS5. Thanks
william r  Dec 27, 2021
2 answers
A
You can use an amp with or without a phono pre-amp input. There is a built-in pre-amp on the turntable if the amp does not have one. Just make sure the pre-amp is turned off on the turntable if you are connecting it to an amp with a phone pre-amp built in.
anthony  Dec 07, 2023
A
My father (who I purchased this for) is using an OLD Optimus receiver. I'm thinking any amp would be fine.

Q
how do you control volume on airpods when connected by bluetooth?
tina  Oct 26, 2021

A
The audio level of the signal will be controlled from your Bluetooth-enabled speaker or headphones. Make sure your Bluetooth-enabled speaker or headphones have an adjustable audio level. Do not connect with speakers and headphones that do not feature an audio level adjustment.

Q
Can I connect this turntable to a Denon CD Reciever RCD-41 via Bluetooth?
david  Jul 12, 2021
2 answers
A
The Bluetooth in this turntable should be able to pair to the Bluetooth in most receivers including ones like that Denon model to play the music
jason  Jul 17, 2021 (Staff)
A
I haven't used the Bluetooth feature, but it should work like any other Bluetooth enabled device. After looking at the Denon RCD-41, I would think it would work just fine. -- Check with one of the Crutchfield Advisors before you buy just to make sure.

Q
how do I record from Sony PS-LX310BT to my windows 10 pc?
dave  May 21, 2021
1 answer
A
I use a USB cable from the turntable to the computer. The connection requires a USB type B cable connector on the side of the turntable. I use free audio software (Audacity) then to record the audio on the PC.

Q
Does the Music Hall decoupling cork mat work well with this? I'm concerned since I can't confirm whether the VTA can be adjusted.
kristin  Mar 08, 2021
1 answer
A
This turntable does not have that adjustment. Because of that, we do not recommend using that mat with this turntable. We have advisors that can be reached by calling 1-800-324-9695 who will be happy to discuss this and all the goals to give a personal recommendation on a turntable

Connecting Klipsch 51 speakers and Klipsch 80s subwoofer to this turntable?
mario  Mar 05, 2021

We didn't get a subwoofer, so I can't speak to that. The Klipsch speakers connect like a dream, great sound from turntable. Highly recommend.
anne  Mar 05, 2021
A
The manual says it can be connected to wireless speakers via Bluetooth, but the speakers need to have a volume control. Otherwise it needs to go through an amplifier.

Can this connect to Sonos speaker system?

Thank you Jack. But if this is Bluetooth, shouldn't it connect without a line? We have a connect in the basement, but would like to keep the turntable upstairs where we don't have to go down and change albums.
susanne  Feb 12, 2021
A
I believe it can be via the line input on a Sonos Connect or the newer Sonos Port & Amp.
jack l  Feb 12, 2021

Wireless BT connections to a Bose BT Mini speaker which works great. You can connect via audio cable to a receiver or amplifier that can support speaker systems. SONOS has wireless and wired speakers. Either way, you can hook up. Nice turntable package and it has been easy to use and enjoy.
irving  Feb 11, 2021
Q
My old stereo amplifier has only one receptor plug hole for "audio In." Can this Sony turntable connect to that? If so, which plug, red or white?
jerry  Dec 10, 2020
2 answers
A
I enjoy this turntable and there are two plugs, one red and one white. Neither is marked but I think think red means right channel. I don't plug this one, I use the Bluetooth with a couple of compatible BT speakers as well as a BT receiver. I love being able to move the turntable to different rooms thanks to BT. I wish I had a better answer other than see if you find a reverse splitter cable. One that can accommodate the red and white male plugs from the turntable and that has a compatible plug for your system. Cheers and good luck.
irving  Dec 13, 2020
A
Dunno, sorry. Good luck

You most definitely can, RCA audio cables are on back and a phono/line switch to select the gain.

It has a pigtail with left and right male RCA (red and white) plugs. I used these to connect to my home theatre receiver.

Q
What is the difference between WiFi and Bluetooth?
virginia  Nov 15, 2020
1 answer
A
The people at Crutchfield would know better how to answer this, but, my understanding is that a WIFI device can be broadcast to any and all other WIFI devices nearby with no type of set-up. For Bluetooth to work, 2 devices (1 being this turntable) would have to "pair" up, or be selected to work together. It's still wireless, but "permission", as it were, would have to be given to both devices to communicate with each other. Hope this helps.
